Our COVID-19 Response
The mission of Trellis for Tomorrow, to provide resources in support of community resilience, is especially vital at this time. In light of the COVID-19 crisis, we are recalibrating our work to directly respond and support our communities two critical ways:
1. Fast tracking plantings and expanding the number of gardens we manage through our various programs
2. Providing virtual programs to support our teen participants as they strive to be leaders at this time
Our Food for All program provides over 30,000 pounds of organic produce per year to communities in need. Our spring plantings account for 25-22% of this total. This will be even more critical this year. Due to our garden partner sites being shut down, we plan to do these plantings ourselves in order to ensure that the food sources are available.
Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) & Youth Seed Enterprise (YSE) programs give our youth crucial leadership and practical skills that are particularly empowering and transformative at a time like this. For Summer 2020, our staff will be leading teens in a hybrid program with time in our gardens in the morning and virtual afternoon sessions that dive deeper into leadership, food security and community engagement. As always, our focus on impact is strong — youth will continue to earn while they learn and provide a critical source of nutrient dense food for their communities.
We are thrilled and honored to be one of six nonprofits selected by NBC10 Philadelphia and Telemundo 62 to receive their Project Innovation grant! Thank you for recognizing our work and rapid response to the COVID-19 crisis.
