TAKE ROOT has completed its first season, running Saturday morning sessions for local youth aged 12–18 from September to November. This program provides young people with the opportunity to earn money while building essential workplace and leadership skills in a fun, hands-on environment. Participants worked in community gardens, learning about garden maintenance and engaging with guest speakers who shared insights into various career paths and ways to contribute to their community.
Throughout the season, the program immersed participants in a range of essential skills through interactive activities and exercises. Teens explored key concepts such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, work ethic, and adaptability. They participated in challenges like group puzzles, conflict resolution workshops, and creativity-driven tasks, while rotating leadership roles and reflecting on their personal growth. This hands-on approach equipped them with practical skills they can apply both now and in the future.
A major focus of this season’s TAKE ROOT was developing personal accountability and time management skills. By working together in a supportive environment, the participants were encouraged to explore their strengths, try new things, and step outside their comfort zones. The program was designed to be a safe and encouraging space where teens could learn from each other and grow at their own pace.
The season ended with a celebration of the teens’ achievements, allowing them to reflect on their journey and share feedback. They were given the opportunity to voice their ideas for how the program could continue to grow and improve, ensuring their voices were heard as part of the process. It was a wonderful conclusion to a season of learning, growth, and community!
